Terms of Use

These conditions govern access to and use of Sonoma County Criminal History. Opening content or submitting a search confirms acceptance of every term below. Anyone who does not agree must stop using the website.

NO FCRA USE. Sonoma County Criminal History is privately operated and has no government affiliation. It and its advertising partners do not provide a service for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or another Fair Credit Reporting Act purpose. This is a reference resource, not a private investigation firm or consumer reporting agency.

1. What This Website Is

This private reference site is independent of every public office. It neither stores official criminal records nor files documents, retrieves records, or performs official checks for a user.

Its content directs readers to Sonoma County custodians, including the Sheriff's Records Unit and Sonoma Superior Court, as well as the California Department of Justice and California Megan's Law Website. Some pages also connect to outside research tools.

2. Rules for Using This Site

Use is permitted only if you agree not to:

  • Use the service in violation of federal, California, or local law
  • Threaten, harass, or stalk another person with information found here
  • Apply site content to employment, housing, credit, or insurance decisions
  • Attempt unauthorized access to any system or account
  • Deploy bots, scrapers, or other automated collection tools
  • Interfere with performance or another visitor's access

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

No site or linked-tool information may be used to stalk, intimidate, threaten, harass, or discriminate against a person. Such conduct is forbidden and can violate the law. California Penal Code section 290.46 restricts misuse of California Megan's Law Website information. Registry access supports public safety awareness, not vigilantism or discriminatory treatment.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA and does not create consumer reports, credit reports, or background checks. Its advertising partners likewise do not offer linked tools for regulated screening. Site or linked information must not be used to:

  • Make an employment decision
  • Evaluate a housing applicant
  • Set insurance terms or judge creditworthiness
  • Determine eligibility for a license, permit, or public program
  • Carry out any other FCRA-regulated purpose

A legally regulated check must be obtained through an authorized California Department of Justice process or a screening provider that complies with the FCRA.

5. No Legal Advice

Site content is general information, not legal advice. Only a licensed California lawyer can assess how a warrant, charge, conviction, or expungement rule applies to a specific matter.

6. No Warranties

All content and services are supplied "as is," without a guarantee that:

  • Outside search results are accurate or complete
  • Pages contain no error, defect, or security weakness
  • The service will always be available without interruption
  • Information is complete, accurate, and current at all times

Charges, dismissals, sealing orders, and California expungement relief can change a record. Gaps and delays are unavoidable. No statement here is an official representation by Sonoma Superior Court, the Sheriff, California DOJ, or another agency.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links may open Sheriff sites, court portals, California agency pages, legal-aid resources, or independent search services. Those destinations are outside this site's control. Their content, availability, charges, privacy practices, and terms remain their responsibility.

8. Intellectual Property

Sonoma County Criminal History or its content partners own the site's text, graphics, logos, and code. Written authorization is required before copying, modifying, distributing, or creating derivative material from that content.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the site is not responsible for damages arising from its use, including reliance on content or an outside linked service.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold the site harmless against claims, demands, or proceedings caused by your use or breach of these terms, including related costs and legal fees.

11. Governing Law

California law governs these terms. Any dispute tied to use of the site must be brought in a court located in California. Official public-record access is governed separately by the California Public Records Act, Government Code section 7920.000 et seq., while Penal Code sections 11105 and 13300 restrict dissemination of state and local summary criminal history.

12. Changes to These Terms

These terms may be revised at any time. A revision becomes effective when it is posted on this page.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be restricted or terminated at any time, for any reason, without prior notice.

14. Severability

If one provision is held invalid or unenforceable, all remaining provisions continue in force. The affected term will be modified only to the extent required for enforcement.

15. Questions

Questions about these terms may be directed through the Contact page.
